The History of Housing Ministries of New England

HMNE was formed in 2001 to assume ownership and management of properties in the New England Region. Following the sale of the last managed property owned by an affiliate in 2005, HMNE’s mission evolved from a stewardship and management role to that of finding and screening projects that otherwise may not move forward without the assistance of funding from HMNE’s affiliate; and, where the borrower is a not-for-profit (501.c) engaged in the rehabilitation of existing or building new affordable housing.   Loans are anticipated to be secured by acceptable collateral; however, HMNE can help facilitate obtaining consultative services for not-for-profit organizations with scarce resources with the objective to develop a strong business plan leading to the funding of qualified projects, often with the assistance of low-income housing credits. Modest grants are available but limited to a competitive application process and a limited annual budget for grants.
